We are a national, non-governmental, non-profit founded in 2006 in Osogbo, Osun State and now have her Head Office in Ikire, Osun State. We are registered with both Osun State Government and Corporate Affairs Commission with her branch offices in Borno, Delta, Kwara, Kogi, Kaduna, Niger and Oyo State. Recently, SHEAD Centre has just registered in one of the States in United States of America as SHEAD CENTRE INCORPORATION and she is expanding her global reach.

SHEAD Centre stands as a beacon of transformative healthcare, globally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly for its unwavering commitment to eradicating the burden of disease. As an esteemed member of the World Hepatitis Alliance and a dedicated participant in the WHO Civil Society Commission, we navigate the frontiers of healthcare advocacy and intervention with unparalleled dedication.

As a formidable institution, the SHEAD Centre has positioned herself as a leading contributor to the enhancement of public health outcomes at the community, Local Government Areas, State and National levels. This is achieved through the incorporation of a community need based, patient centred and change oriented strategies in the project design, implementation and evaluation.

This strategy has effectively resulted in the projects being embraced and maintained by the community, empowering its members to spearhead local development initiatives, act as catalysts for positive change. The ultimate outcome of these efforts is the enhanced health status of project beneficiaries, particularly marginalized and vulnerable populations such as women and children.

Moreover, SHEAD Centre recognizes the significance of partnerships in fulfilling the organization’s objectives. Accordingly, the SHEAD Centre has cultivated strong relationships with various relevant stakeholders to uphold this commitment. Among these entities are the Health Alive Foundation, State Ministry/Department of Health (SMOH), State Ministry of Environment and Sanitation, State Ministry of Education, State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), Local Agency for the Control of AIDS (LACA), Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Unit, Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (at the National, State, and Local Government Levels). Notably essential within this collaborative network are the communities and individuals we assist.

SHEAD also recognizes that the workforce is the most valuable asset of any organization. Hence, the organization has a staff mix of competent health and non-health professionals, consultants and pool of volunteers that can successfully implement quality projects that are in line with the organization’s vision.

SHEAD Centre works with a staff composition comprising proficient health and non-health professionals, advisors, consultants, and a great deal of volunteers. This diverse team is adept at effectively implementing high-quality projects aligned with her vision and mission.

 

Our Strategies

SHEAD Center initiatives including development, design and implementation involve strategies that impact people across program and populations levels. Our strategies contribute to positive change that enhance effectiveness and sustainability includes:
Needs Assessment:

We conduct thorough needs assessments in target communities to identify specific challenges, understand local dynamics, and tailor our programs to address real needs.

Stakeholder Engagement:

SHEAD Center foster strong relationships with local communities, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure collaboration, inclusivity, involvement in decision making process and a comprehensive understanding of the issues at hand.

Strategic and Sustainability Planning:

We develop clear, well-defined program goals and objectives with a realistic timeline and establish a roadmap for implementation, incorporating feedback from stakeholders.

Capacity Building:

Our priority is to invest in the capacity building of local communities by providing training, resources, and tools necessary for sustainable program impact. We empower individuals to take ownership of their development.

Social and Behaviour Change:

We incorporate communication campaigns, community engagement, policy advocacy, and the creation of enabling environments to facilitate and sustain positive behaviors that contribute to broader societal transformations and improved collective well-being.

Partnerships and Collaboration:

Forge strategic partnerships with other non-profits, governmental agencies, and private sector entities to pool resources, share expertise, network and enhance the overall effectiveness of program implementation.

Establish robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track progress, measure impact, and adapt programs based on real-time feedback. Regularly assess the effectiveness of interventions against predefined indicators.

Utilize technology for data collection, reporting, and communication. Implement innovative solutions to streamline processes and improve the efficiency of program delivery. Utilize comprehensive communication strategy including social media.

Engage in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the issues addressed by the organization. Mobilize support from the community and beyond, fostering a sense of collective responsibility.

Diversify funding sources and implement effective resource mobilization strategies to ensure financial stability. Actively seek grants, donations, and partnerships to support program implementation.

Technical Experience On Projects

Health

HEALTH SYSTEM STRENGTHENING:

We have achieved success in most of our programs by enhancing primary healthcare infrastructure to provide comprehensive and preventive services at the community level. This has helped to facilitate linkage between community and the health systems. We have procured Generator set, Air Conditioners and Refrigerators to health facilities to enhance their productivity.

HEPATITIS

SHEAD Centre has implemented awareness campaigns to educate communities about hepatitis transmission, prevention, and treatment. Currently, we are facilitating and conducting screening and vaccination programs to reduce the incidence and prevalence of hepatitis infections as well as support the provision of affordable and accessible treatment for individuals affected by hepatitis. We strive to leave an indelible mark on the global health landscape, measured by the significant reduction of hepatitis prevalence, improved healthcare access, and the empowerment of communities worldwide. As a proud member of the World Hepatitis Alliance, we actively collaborate with a network of like-minded organizations, pooling our expertise and resources to drive impactful change in the fight against hepatitis.

TUBERCULOSIS

We have been involved in enhancing early detection through widespread screening initiatives and supporting access to affordable and high – quality treatment, follow-up care coupled with community education on TB prevention.
SHEAD Centre has implemented the Community Tuberculosis Care (CTBC) Project in Irewole and Isokan Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Osun State with support from Health Alive Foundation under the Global Fund TB Grant. The project involved identification and referral of presumptive TB clients to DOTS centres and follow-up on patients to enhance compliance and adherence to treatment. Community mobilization, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation (Quarterly Review Meeting) and provision of transport and communication allowance were part of activities implemented.

Subsequently, SHEAD Centre was engaged as sub-sub-recipient of the Global Fund New Funding Model Grant implementing the Active Case Finding (ACF) on Tuberculosis in Isokan and Irewole LGAs between 2015 to 2018. The project involves house-to-house case search of presumptive TB and collection of sputum samples for screening at the laboratory. Thereafter, positive clients are referred to the DOT centre for treatment.
From the year 2019 to 2023, SHEAD Centre was selected as the Lead CBO to implement the New Funding Model (NFM 2 & 3) from Global Fund on Active TB case finding and Community Programme Management of DR-TB (CPMDT) across all the 30 LGAs in Osun State under the supervision of National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) as Principal Recipient and Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) as Sub-recipient. SHEAD Centre contributed to ….. Our TB intervention has been carried out in Osun, Kwara, Kogi and Niger States.

MALARIA

SHEAD Centre has provided need-based services on malaria intervention through both partners support and self-financed model at the community levels in various States. Through these activities, SHEAD has carried out social mobilization by offering community-based education on malaria symptoms, prevention, and early treatment, conducting through community drama with demonstration of usage of Long Lasting Insecticidal Treated Net (LLIN) through Hang Up, Keep Up Campaign and interpersonal communication to create demand for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malaria in communities across 2 Local Government Areas (LGAs). In the course of implementation, Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) were conducted and those found to be positive were referred to the next level of care. As part of package of intervention, SHEAD Centre distributed LLIN and implemented mosquito control measures to prevent malaria transmission in selected communities with major emphasis on pregnant women and nursing mothers of children below the age of 5.

SHEAD has also strengthened existing community structures through strategic collaboration that improved the uptake of malaria services while several advocacy visits were paid to community leaders, health centres, health workers, LGA and state stakeholders to enhance participation and promote ownership of the intervention.

HIV/AIDS

SHEAD Centre has been conducting HIV intervention with the aim of preventing new cases of HIV infection amongst key populations such as the Female Sex Workers (FSW) and their clients as well as other vulnerable groups most especially the pregnant women for PMTCT. The design and implementation of our intervention has been through the Minimum Package of Prevention Intervention (MPPI) approach that will address the Behavioural, Biomedical and Structural drivers of the epidemic as it relates to the local context using Peer Education as the fulcrum strategy.
We have been conducting targeted outreach and education initiatives to reduce stigma and promote HIV/AIDS prevention, offering counseling, testing, and support services to those affected by HIV/AIDS.

SHEAD Centre facilitated the usage of Peer Education (PE) to implement the Social Behavior Change (SBC) approach in order to promote adoption of positive sexual and reproductive behaviors amongst the target groups. In the course of implementation, HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) Services were expanded and identified HIV positive clients were referred and followed up to designated Care and Treatment (CCT) sites for the next level of care. As part of strategies to ensure and promote the ownership and sustainability of the project, active engagement of community structures that improved community participation is integrated as an essential component of the project.

MENSTRUAL HYGIENE:

The in and out-of-School Children and other youths in the communities has benefited from our MH activities which include distribution of menstrual hygiene products and delivering educational programs to promote menstrual hygiene practices and eliminate social stigmas. Our outreach program activities has reached over 743 persons with menstrual hygiene practices.
Our other target has been the marginalized and underserved communities (e.g prison inmates) where we conducted educational workshops to break taboos and promote menstrual hygiene practices.

MENTAL HEALTH:

Over the years, SHEAD Centre has been advocating for mental health awareness and reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues. Our activities on mental health include but are not limited to conducting awareness campaigns to destigmatize mental health issues and promote mental well-being. As part of our strategic plan, we intend to establish an Interprofessional Community Clinic where we will have community-based mental health support services and counseling.

REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH:

SHEAD Centre has been providing reproductive health education to promote family planning and safe childbirth practices. SHEAD Centre has worked with Traditional Birth Attendants in the communities to ensure linkage and referral services with health centres as well as ensuring safe and supportive environments for prenatal and postnatal care.

Environment and Water Sanitation

SHEAD Centre has been conducting environmental sanitation exercise on a monthly basis in collaboration with Osun state Ministry of Environment and Sanitation and most closely with department of water and environmental sanitation unit at the community grass root level in select Local Government Areas.

SHEAD Centre has been working closely with NESREA and the State Environmental Protection Agency (Osun State) for over 7 years to implement environmental sustainability activities and commemorating World Environment Day across different LGAs in the State. We have also established an Environmental sustainable groups among Secondary School Pupils in the State.

Quality Education Projects

SHEAD Centre in her bid to ensure Sustainable Development Goals (Goal 4) is achieved, have carefully enrolled vulnerable children and out of School children back to school classes again and at the same time purchased and handed over school writing materials to the pupils and student in Osun and Niger States. The aim of the kind gesture is to ensure that no children in the community is found on the streets, thus must be given quality, accessible and affordable education. We have been granted an approval by the State Ministry of Education to implement impactful programs in schools across the State to educate the pupils on developmental issues.

AGRICULTURE

SHEAD Centre is upholding the Sustainable Development Goals 1 & 2 to put an end to
hunger and poverty in the communities we serve by engaging the populace in farming. SHEAD embarked on an extensive commercial agricultural farming on large hectares of land and the proceeds from the harvest has been used to bring development to the communities that participated in the activities.

Technical Experience on National Socio Investment Proggram

SHEAD played an active role as a third-party monitor of the national socio investment (NSIP) which was then under the office the vice president of Nigeria through ActionAid Nigeria as the principal recipient and Peniel Global foundation as the Lead Civil society Organization.

SHEAD effectively and efficiently monitored 3 programs under of the socio investment program which includes N-power, Home grown school feeding and Government eradication empowerment program in 3 LGAs (Ayedaade, Irewole and Isokan) successfully.

The aim of the third-party monitoring exercise was to monitor and evaluate the outputs and outcomes of the implementation of the N-SIP. It was aimed at capturing beneficiaries’ voice and providing feedback to the NSIO with the aim of improving the delivery of services in the programme

Gender Based Violence

SHEAD Centre is committed to addressing and combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through a comprehensive and empathetic approach. GBV is a pervasive human rights violation that affects individuals across diverse communities, and our programs aim to raise awareness, provide support, and advocate for systemic change. Through education and awareness, we have been conducting community workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate individuals about different forms of GBV. We have engaged our target groups especially the youths in different communities and empowered them with information and enlightenment.

Our Approach

We develop programs based on the needs of the focused individuals, community or even a whole Local Government Area. The initiative is followed by execution.

To successfully execute the programs, training of trainers (TOT) advocacy visits, enlightenment and sensitisation seminars, workshops as related to the thematic areas are employed. Networking and collaboration with development partners, locally, nationally or internationally are strategies often adopted to successfully accomplish our set objectives.
