INTERNATIONAL DAY TO PROTECT EDUCATION FROM ATTACK 2027

September 9, 2027

INTERNATIONAL DAY TO PROTECT EDUCATION FROM ATTACK 2027

Protect Education. Protect Children. Protect the Future.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment.

Schools should be places where children discover their potential, teachers nurture minds, and communities build a better future. Yet, in many parts of the world, children and educators continue to face threats from conflict, violence, attacks, displacement, and insecurity.

When education comes under attack, it is not only classrooms and school buildings that are affected. The dreams, safety, and future opportunities of an entire generation are put at risk.

Education Must Be a Safe Space

Schools must remain protected spaces where children can learn without fear.

Attacks on schools can cause injuries, deaths, psychological trauma, displacement, interruption of learning, and long-term consequences for children’s development. Teachers and other education personnel can also face threats, violence, and intimidation while carrying out their essential work.

For children living in areas affected by conflict or insecurity, losing access to education can further increase their vulnerability to poverty, exploitation, child labour, early marriage, and other risks.

Every Child Has a Right to Learn

Education is a fundamental human right.

A child’s access to education should not depend on where they live, the security situation around them, or the circumstances into which they were born.

We must work together to ensure that children affected by conflict, displacement, disasters, and other emergencies are not left behind.

Protecting education means:

๐Ÿ”น Keeping schools and learning spaces safe from violence and attacks.

๐Ÿ”น Protecting students, teachers, and education personnel.

๐Ÿ”น Ensuring children affected by emergencies can continue learning.

๐Ÿ”น Providing psychosocial support to children and educators affected by violence.

๐Ÿ”น Strengthening policies and systems that safeguard education during conflict and crises.

๐Ÿ”น Holding accountable those responsible for attacks against education.

A Shared Responsibility

Protecting education requires commitment at every level.

Governments must strengthen policies and security measures that protect schools and learners.

Communities must help create safe environments where children can attend school without fear.

Humanitarian and development organizations must support children whose education has been disrupted by emergencies.

Parents, teachers, and community leaders must continue advocating for children’s right to learn.

And all of us have a role to play in speaking out against violence that threatens education.

When Education Is Attacked, Everyone Loses

A classroom is more than a building.

It is a place where a child learns to read, develops confidence, discovers possibilities, and prepares for the future.

When we protect a school, we protect knowledge.

When we protect a teacher, we protect the people who shape future generations.

When we protect a childโ€™s education, we protect the future of our communities.

At SHEAD Centre, we believe that every child deserves access to safe, inclusive, and quality education, regardless of their circumstances.

On this International Day to Protect Education from Attack, let us stand together to defend the right to learn and call for stronger action to protect students, teachers, and schools from violence.

๐Ÿ•Š๏ธProtect schools.

๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿฝ Protect children.
๐ŸŒ Protect the future.

Education must never be a target.
