LIVER CANCER AWARENESS DAY

LIVER CANCER AWARENESS 2027
Your liver works quietly every day, performing vital functions that keep your body healthy. But like many health conditions, liver cancer can develop without obvious symptoms in its early stages, making awareness, prevention, and timely medical care incredibly important.
Liver cancer occurs when abnormal cells in the liver grow uncontrollably. It can develop as a primary cancer of the liver or occur when cancer from another part of the body spreads to the liver.
One of the major concerns is that liver cancer may not cause noticeable symptoms in its early stages. By the time symptoms appear, the disease may already be advanced.
Know the warning signs
Seek medical attention if you experience persistent or unusual symptoms such as:
🔹 Unexplained weight loss
🔹 Loss of appetite or feeling full quickly
🔹 Persistent pain or discomfort in the upper right side of the abdomen
🔹 Abdominal swelling
🔹 Yellowing of the eyes or skin
🔹 Persistent nausea or vomiting
🔹 Unusual tiredness or weakness
🔹 Pale stools or dark urine
🔹 A lump or feeling of fullness beneath the ribs
These symptoms can also be caused by conditions other than cancer, but unusual or persistent changes should never be ignored.
🛡️ Prevention starts with awareness
Several factors can increase the risk of liver cancer, including chronic infection with hepatitis B or hepatitis C, liver cirrhosis, heavy alcohol use, certain metabolic conditions, and exposure to some harmful substances.
You can take steps to protect your liver by:
✅ Getting tested for hepatitis B and C when recommended.
✅ Getting vaccinated against hepatitis B.
✅ Avoiding or limiting alcohol consumption.
✅ Maintaining a healthy weight and staying physically active.
✅ Managing conditions such as diabetes and fatty liver disease with appropriate medical care.
✅ Avoiding unnecessary exposure to harmful chemicals and contaminated substances.
✅ Seeking medical care when persistent symptoms or liver problems occur.
People living with chronic liver disease or hepatitis may need regular medical monitoring and liver cancer surveillance based on their individual risk.
Early action can make a difference
Liver cancer can be a serious and life-threatening disease, but awareness gives us an opportunity to act earlier.
Know your risk. Get the appropriate tests. Follow medical advice. Do not ignore persistent symptoms.
And if someone you love is living with liver cancer, remember that support matters. A diagnosis can affect not only the individual but also their family and community.
This Liver Cancer Awareness campaign, SHEAD Centre encourages everyone to learn more about liver health, take hepatitis prevention seriously, seek appropriate screening and medical care, and share reliable information with others.
Because sometimes, the most important step is simply knowing that something needs to be checked.
Know Your Liver. Know Your Risk. Act Early.
